The Organic Revolution

Synopsis

‘Bio’ is booming, the label promises sustainably produced, healthy food. Farming in harmony with nature, circular economy, resource conservation and animal welfare are seemingly modern buzzwords. It is a little-known fact that this supposed ‘fashion trend’ will celebrate its centenary in 2024: Sustainable food production has in fact been around since the beginning of the last century!

With the industrial revolution, agriculture was suddenly rationalised. With simplification came problems. Organic farming emerged as a response to the massive use of chemicals, as a return to old cultural techniques and the importance of animals, soil, proper fertilisation and careful treatment of nature.

The film tells of the eventful history of organic farming and of the pioneers to whom we owe ‘Bio’.
