Do the genes of bears hold the secrets to treat human diseases? Will scientists be able one day to cure human osteoporosis, muscular atrophy, obesity, and cardiac or renal deficiency?
In the mists of the Swedish Taiga and in laboratories across Northern Europe, several teams of doctors are analysing blood and tissue samples from hibernating bears.
Doing so, they intend to understand the physiology and exceptional resistance of these animals, and in the end to find a cure for common human health issues.
