The removal of the foreskin is the most common surgery performed on male children – whether for religious, cultural or medical reasons. In Africa, the WHO uses circumcision in the fight against AIDS. However, more and more doctors say the damage outweighs the medical benefits. Many also criticize the practice as an invasion in boys’ right to self-determination.
